As you may know by now there are 3 key dates concerned with the release of a new apple product. First of all we have the date we find out when the release event will be and invitations are sent out to those concerned, then the release event date, and finally the date it is released to the public. Well we have had a rumour today telling us that invitations will be sent out for the much anticipated iPad minievent on October 10th.
The next new product expected from Apple is the much rumoured iPad mini with its expected October release date. Well we have a few more rumoured leaked images from the upcoming device to give you more of an idea of what it’s going to look like.
The back shell looks the same as the previous leaked pictures we posted a few weeks ago. It also shows this same mystery hole in the top middle. However since the iPhone 5 and new iPod touch 5G release we know that Apple are now including these slots to improve microphone quality on video capture, so this at least makes the part a … Read the rest
It’s a tradition in itself for the most avid Apple fans to queue up outside their local Apple store in anticipation for the newest product to be released. Shops even cater for this now providing outside security, cups of coffee and special shopping centre opening times just for these waiting customers.

Ever since the first iPhone its huge demand and people waiting for theirs has made it tradition for some to rub salt in the wounds further by destroying their new device and filming it! There’s a few of these about but the one we have for you here is pretty cool – the new iPhone 5 getting shot by a huge .50 Cal rifle.
There are some awesome super slow mo shots and its pretty amazing how well the thing stood up to being shot with one of the most powerful guns out there. Enjoy!
You can only wait so long after a new Apple device is out before guys such as those at iFixYourineed to break it down and check out its insides.
That’s exactly what the guys have done here and they replace the screen and do a scratch test while they are at it.
It would seem that due to the new construction the screen is a lot easier to replace on this new device, compared to the 4 and 4S which required practically everything to be removed first.

With iOS 6 released yesterday we are now only one day away from millions of new customers being able to get their hands on heir new iPhone 5, and unsurprisingly Samsung’s latest video advert has attacked eager iPhone 5 customers waiting in queue once again.
The tag line for the latest string of adverts is that “The next big thing is already here”. I’m sure they will continue to go in on Apple for as long as they can, but like it or not you can’t argue with 2 million iPhone 5′s sold in the first 24 hours!
The adverts are almost painful to watch now they’ve done it so … Read the rest

It seems we have gotten our hands on the first pictures of the retail packaging that the new iPhone 5 is going to come in. We know Apple put in a lot of work to their packaging, they even have a special room dedicated to testing product packaging.

Queuing for the latest iPhone has become a tradition in itself, and it was only a matter of time before we saw our first people in line for the iPhone 5. This time the first to get in line were at Apple’s flagship Fifth Avenue store, as opposed to the iPhone 4S launch where the first in queue was at the Covent Garden store in London.
Around 10 people pitched up this morning ready to dedicate the whole of the working week to getting their hands on this new iDevice. It’s not surprising that they are queuing so early given the huge demand surrounding the new sixth generation iPhone, with … Read the rest
AT&T announced earlier today that the iPhone 5 was the fastest selling iPhone ever, and now Apple have confirmed this by revealing that the iPhone 5 racked up an astonishing 2 million Pre orders in the first 24hours of being available. Apple have gone on to say that demand has exceeded the initial supply of devices, and some customers will not be receiving there new iPhone until October. … Read the rest
We know from earlier this year that Samsung really have no shame when it comes to directly slating the iPhone to try and promote their product. It’s kind of flattering for Apple in some respects as Samsung know the only way to get noticed is by directly slating the iPhone.

With the flurry of rumours that are going around in the build up to the new 2012 iPhone it sometimes gets hard to distinguish the realistic from the not so realistic. Well one rumour that has kept cropping up and even more so recently is that the iPhone 5 will be the first device to show off an all new smaller dock connector from Apple.
The classic 30 pin connector shown below has been with us ever since the firts generation iPod, and in its time, with the huge growth of the iPhone and iPad, it has become as easily recognisable and abundant as the humble USB.

Yet another rumour has hit the net today on the predicted ‘iPad mini’ coming from Apple later this year. 9to5mac cites industry sources and claims that this new smaller device will be debuted in October alongside the upcoming new iPhone 5. The report also says the new device will start at just $250.
Apple will be going forward with the 7-inch iPad, currently targeting an October 2012 release alongside the new iPhone, and — here’s the killer — at a $200 to $250 price point… Our source has indicated, however, that the 7-inch iPad will be identical to the current 9.7-inch iPad, just scaled down. News has come in from Taiwanese source Digitimes once again, this time citing industry sources that Apple’s secondary supplier Pegatron have received the first order to start production of the upcoming sixth generation iPhone that people are calling the ‘iPhone 5′.
As you may know Apple’s primary manufacturer is Foxconn, but they still rely on Pegatron to produce a substantial amount of both iPhone 4S and new iPad units. The supplier is said to be downgrading its motherboard production department in order to make way for a higher production of new iPhone units.

You may of heard the latest rumours that the upcoming 2012 iPhone 5 will be made from liquid metal. It’s certainly an exciting proposition and a technology we know Apple has at their grasp.

Well renowned Apple Analyst Gene Munster has said in a note to investors this week that the iPhone 5 will make its debut this October, and will definitely feature 4G LTE capabilities. One of the biggest features hoped for the next iPhone is a 4 inch display to take over from the 3.5 inch one we’ve had since day one. All current designs depicting this larger screen have been sticking with the iPhone’s current 3:2 ratio between height and width, but this is the first one to go against this and predict a 9:5 more ‘candy bar’ like sized screen.

Supporting all of the other previous rumours that the iPad 3 is going to be slightly thicker than its predecessor, we have a picture showing that the third generation iPad is going to be less than a millimetre thicker.
The picture via Apple.pro shows one of the iPad 3 rear shells that a few people have managed to get a hold of being measured with a pair of digital vernier callipers. The same has also been done with a current iPad 2. As you can see there is a difference, but it is extremely minimal at .81 of a millimetre.

A spot from Macrumors appears to be our first hint at the price tag the imminent iPad 3 will carry. The picture source was found on the Chinese networking site Weibo, and suggests an $80 price hike for Wifi iPad models, and a $70 rise in the equivalent 3G models.
One post seems to depict a price comparison between the iPad 2 and iPad 3 possibly revealing a price increase for the iPad 3. The headings are labled left to right: “Apple iPad Model”, “iPad 2 US Price”, “iPad 3 US Price”, “iPad 3 RMB equivalent price”. The final column is calculated on the exchange rate.
We posted earlier in the week how Macrumors managed to get their hands on the proposed (but pretty much definate) screen that will come equipped on the imminent iPad 3. Unfortunately even at the hands of the experts at ifixit with their ‘Hands on’ video with the display, it was not possible to get any power to the screen to give it a test run.
What can be done however is take pictures from a microscope, and the results of which are as shown above. This picture taken by iFixit shows even better the huge improvement in pixel density on the third generation device. As the screen is powered … Read the rest

Now via iFixit we can show you the first hands on video with the alleged retina screen that’s going to feature in the third generation tablet. We love a good iPhone concept here at TheAppleUpdate, and the last on we posted, the ‘iPhone SJ’ showed pretty much my idea of a perfect iPhone 5. We’ve got a bit of an interesting one to bring you today, the guys over at CiccareseDesign have made some excellent digital mock ups of an iPhone inspired by Apple’s ‘Magic Mouse’. Of course its not a serious prediction at what the iPhone 5 will look like, but you cant deny it’s a beautiful looking thing.
There are many practical reasons why the next iPhone would not look like this, however the idea is there, after all both the mouse and the … Read the rest

Today’s most recent iPhone news come once again from the Japanese blog Macotakara. The report says that Apple are rearranging their release schedules for good, and that the sixth generation iPhone (known as the iPhone 5) will be release in the Autumn/Fall time of this year.
The report predictably cites a ‘reliable inside source’ and says to expect a release date for the iPhone 5 in September/October time. Apple broke its typical 12 month release schedule for the iPhone for the first time with the release of the iPhone 4S by releasing it in October and not in the summer. Since the very early days of the iPad 3 rumours an A6 chip has always been right up there, however if this recent ‘spy shot’ provided by Engadget is anything to go by, the iPad 3 will not see the premiere of an all new A6 chip. The snap shown above was posted to Chinese site Weiphone and is reported to be a logic board from the upcoming third generation tablet.
The main thing to get from this picture is of course the ‘A5X’ chip that’s sitting there. This is something not seen in an iOS device before and suggests that the processor will not be an all out … Read the rest
Over the past few weeks we have definately had our fair share or rumours hinting at a retina display for the iPad 3, stretching from leaked pictures to tip offs from Apple Employees themselves. However with news via MacRumors we can now CONFIRM that the iPad 3 will feature a super high res 2048 x 1536 Retina display.
MacRumors themselves have managed to get a hold of one of these retina screen replacement parts, and were then free to examine the part in close detail and not just from a digital image.
MacRumors has now been able to obtain one of these iPad 3 displays and examine it under a
From various reliable sources it is now a pretty sure thing that the iPad 3 is going to pack an amazing screen. Here’s a cool picture that shows just how good its 2048 x 1536 screen will be, comparing the relative pixel count to other iOS devices, and even full 1080p HD resolution.
Leaked images of the iPad 3 screen support these super high quality predictions and also indicate that the screens are being manufactured by Sharp. Looks as though it’s going to be an amazing feature for the third generation device, and set the bar even higher for rival tablets such as the kindle Fire.
Amongst the Retina display and quad core A6 processor rumours, it is also thought that the iPad 3 may be the first Apple device to feature LTE or ’4G’ capabilities. The report yesterday from iMore gave an actual March 7th release date and described LTE compatibility, and today we cite a report from the Wall Street Journal that further confirms that the iPad 3 will be LTE ready.
Verizon Communications Inc. and AT&T Inc. will sell a version of the coming iPad that runs on their newest fourth-generation wireless networks, according to people familiar with the matter, as the battle to cash in on big investments in mobile broadband heats
Following on from our report earlier this week from All things Dthat the iPad 3 will be release on first week of March, the blog iMore is now expanding on this by giving us an actual date of March 7th.
iMore quotes “sources who have been reliable in the past” to say the the announcement and keynote speech will be on this date. They also cite these sources on confirming previous thoughts that the third gen tablet will feature the all new A6 processor, a retina display and possible 4G capabilities.
4G LTE networking has been another mystery surrounding the iPad 3, with a compatible Qualcomm chipset becoming
Yesterday we posted an article that cited two major analysts saying the iPad 3 would release in the first week of march, and today we have yet more news from a well renowned source supporting that the iPad 3 will make its debut in March. Major PC manufacturers plan to concede the tablet Market over to the likes of Apple and Amazon in 2012
Ever since the iPad was released back in early 2010, it has opened everyone’s eyes to the joys and great ease of use that can come from a tablet pc. Immediately competitors jump red on the bandwagon, and companies such as Amazon have still only just released their competitor the kindle fire, nonetheless iPad still heavily dominates the sales in this Market. So much is this threat from the likes of Apple and Amazon that ‘pure pc’ manufacturers such as Dell and Acer will be exiting the tablet Market completely next year.
According to ‘inside sources’ at DigiTimes the likes of Hewlett-Packard, Acer, Asus and other pure pc manufactures will … Read the rest
News from Korea Times this week is reporting that LG are preparing for screen production on a new Apple device. However not the iPad 3 as you may be thinking, in fact this report states new screens for two devices, the first being a 4 inch screen for the next iPhone, and second for a smaller screened iPad.
The smaller screened iPad is supposed to have a 7 inch screen, a device like this from Apple is something that has been rumoured and wanted by so many for so long. A decision like this would seem to be a wise move for Apple, as it would help fend off competitors … Read the rest
Rumours of a first quarter 2012 launch for the iPad 3 have been strengthened today with news that the company has slowed production of the second generation tablet to reduce excess inventory. They are reported to reduce in particular the rate of screen production from the likes of LG & Samsung in the aim of slowing the whole manufacturing process down by the end of 2011.
This strongly supports previous reports that production for the iPad 3 has already started, and will be in full swing by 2012 for an estimated March release. Reasoning behind this supposedly being that production of the super high def displays supposedly takes a longer … Read the rest

It seems iPhone 4S users from all over the globe have been reporting issues with their new handset. While Android phone manufacturers are constantly bringing out new phones with increasing screen size, many wonder while Apple have not don’t the same. In fact in all of the 5 generations of iPhone we have now had, Apple have not deviated at all from the original 3.5 inch screen size.
The reasoning behind this is purely practical and about being able to access all area of the screen with ease and minimal effort. If we take Samsung’s flagship phone, and what is largely known as the iPhone 4S’s biggest rival, this sports a 4.27 inch screen and this is one of the main selling points of the device.

Apple were the first real mobile manufacturer to really utilise the micro sim, a sim card that’s more or less half the size of your normal sim card, that has been around for years now. But now from G&D, a german based company who created the first sim card, we are presented with an all new Nano Sim.
The new nano sim is a third smaller than a current micro sim, and also 15% thinner. While these stats seem like nothing (we really are talking millimetres), when trying to make a handset as sleek as possible, every little helps. Apple’s latest smartphone, the iPhone 4S has flown off the shelves as expected, and once again broken the sales records of its predecessor. This is despite the handset being the most pricey on the market, and so many wonder how much does piece of kit cost Apple to make? Well here’s the breakdown.
It turns out that the iPhone 4S costs $188 in parts, and a further $8 in manufacturing expenses, making the total cost per handset $196. The current iPad & iPad 2 use a single LED bar design to illuminate their screens, but from inside info this is not sufficient for the Retina displays, currently fitted in Apple’s two iPad3 prototypes.
