See What The iPhone 5′s New 4 Inch Screen Will Be Like In This Awesome Video

One of the biggest changes that’s to come from the next sixth gen iPhone is its larger 4 inch screen, the first iPhone since its release in 2007 to not have a 3.5 Inch screen. What’s going to be so interesting about this new phone is that the aspect ratio is going to be completely changed, with the increased size coming completely from lengthening the screen and the width remaining the same.

This new ratio leaves us with a longer screen, great for videos and gaming. Just so you can get your head around what it’s going to be like to use MacRumors have produced this fantastic video taking you … Read the rest

Is This The First Leaked Picture Of The iPhone 5′s A6 processor?

As far as supposed pictures of the upcoming iPhone 5 we’re doing pretty well, and have got a good idea what it’s going to look like and some of the specs. Well we now have a rumoured leaked image that supposedly shows the next A6 processor on the logic board for the next iPhone.

The iPhone 5 Could Launch Carrying The UK’s First 4G Network

20120821-192221.jpg

It looks as though the release of the iPhone 5 could bring with it the first 4G network in the UK. Earlier today the UK communications regulator Ofcom gave Everything Everywhere (the company owning Orange and T mobile) permission to roll out the UK’s first 4G network. Once more the date they were given permission to do this was September 11th, one day before the rumoured iPhone 5 September release date.

There’s pretty much no doubt that the new iPhone will be 4G LTE capable, it’s just other territories such as the UK are still yet to provide such a service, that is until now. Multiple sources such as from … Read the rest

Going by the collection of rumours and leaked iPhone parts we’ve managed to get our hands on it does seem that this larger screen is on the cards, except the extra screen size will be gained from an increase in height only.

After the 4S the one main thing that the public want to see from the iPhone 5 is a new design. It’s expected at the moment that this will feature a new unibody metal design that’s even thinner than the iPhone 4S.
Apple have also been rumoured to be dropping their home button from their devices, but if accurate these supposed leaked home button parts suggest that the new iPhone will not be the first device to do this, and the iPhone 5 will indeed have a home button.

Thanks To New Tech The New iPhone Could Be Just 7.9mm Thick

20120423-225445.jpg

Despite the New iPad packing on a few pounds as far as thickness is concerned, for something as portable as the iPhone this is certainly not an option for Apple with the upcoming iPhone 5. Well with all the recent news coming in on the tech going into the new 2012 iPhone it looks like this new device could be as little as 7.9mm thin.

Citing research analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the same guy who told us that with the new 2012 MacBook Pro range will bring with it the 17 inch model being discontinued, he believes that to keep ahead of the competition and … Read the rest

New Touchscreen Technology Could What Be Makes The iPhone 5 Even Thinner And Lighter

20120421-195133.jpg

Most people are fooled into thinking the screen of a smartphone is little more than a thin sheet of glass, but the fact is that to make that glass come to life there are is a huge amount of technology and layers involved in every smart phone, especially one as advanced as the iPhone. What this means is that in proportion to the phone, the screen of an iPhone is actually pretty thick, it has to pack a layer of LCD pixels, a layer separating this and the touch screen layer, then a digitiser layer that translates your finger touches, and then finally a layer of super tough Gorilla Glass … Read the rest

So What Is Liquid Metal? Well If You Have An iPhone You’ve Probably Already Got A Piece Of It

20120421-004618.jpg

We broke yesterday the news on how the iPhone 5 may be made of liquid metal in order to bring a fantastic design change to the new device, and really set it apart from competitors.

Now when you first think of ‘liquid metal’ we naturally think of this science fiction type of material, like something the terminator might be made from, but it’s actually far from it. Liquid Metal is a patented metal alloy that brings with it a number of huge benefits. It’s a material that we know Apple have had available and been playing about with for years, and so the idea of the new iPhone being made … Read the rest

Apple To Launch The iPhone 5 With 4G LTE In October 2012 [Analyst Report]

20120420-134443.jpg

Will the iPhone 5 have 4G LTE? It looks very likely..

Well renowned Apple Analyst Gene Munster has said in a note to investors this week that the iPhone 5 will make its debut this October, and will definitely feature 4G LTE capabilities. Apple is said to be carrying on with a new yearly schedule following the launch of the iPhone 4S, meaning we will now see the upgrades every Autumn/Fall time. Further strengthening this prediction, Munster says that the move to LTE by manufacturers means that chipset manufacturer Qualcomm are experiencing incredible demand, making a June release date as predicted by ETNews yesterday even more unlikely.

While being a beautifully elegant design, the iPhone 4 & 4S is not known for being the most robust of devices, being made predominantly of glass means that it’s not uncommon to find yours shattered on the front or back after a little knock. However with the next iPhone 5 this could be a thing of the past, as ETNews reports the next device will be made from state of the art liquid metal. The report cites ‘industry sources’ and says that in order to beat the competition both Apple and Samsung are seeking alternative materials to construct their upcoming handsets from. Adding to the other swarm of iPhone 5 rumours, we today can today announce from various sources that the next iDevice is to have a completely unibody design. This means just like the iMac or iPad, there will be no physical joins in the construction of the device.

The Register reports from various sources that the new device will feature this unibody design with a 4 inch screen, and that the iPhone 5 will be “the most significant upgrade to date” in terms of design. It is expected that this new design will be the most likely reason people will upgrade, and with the disappointment at a complete lack … Read the rest

Ever since the famous slip up of the iPhone 4 being left in a bar Apple are understandably conscious about not letting their upcoming top secret devices get out. Well Mark Gurman of 9to5mac.com has ‘confidentially declared’ that Apple has already internally seeded versions of the upcoming iPhone 5 disguised as an iPhone 4S to a number of employees at the Apple headquarters in California.

“Apple has internally seeded a prototype next-generation iPhone with the iPhone 4 design. The actual next-generation iPhone is specifically said to not include the iPhone 4/4S design, but Apple

These Gorgeous Images Show You What A 7.85 Inch iPad Mini Will Look Like

20120414-153040.jpg

We love a good mock up concept mock up here at The Apple Update, especially when they’re done in the beautiful minimalistic style just like Apple would do themselves. The guys over at Ciccarese Design have done just this once again, this time showing us what the much rumoured 7.85 inch from Apple would look like next to two of its iOS brothers.

The images are brilliantly done and looks just like what Apple could be revealing to us in the third quarter of this year (if we are to believe the rumours). It also really helps to get a perspective of the size the 7.85 inch iPad mini would … Read the rest

An Exclusive Look Inside The Foxconn Factory And See How The iPad Is Made

5 reasons why a smaller ‘iPad mini’ is a must from Apple

20120411-230319.jpg

With the huge resounding success of the iPad, an increasingly more expected product from Apple is a smaller iPad or and ‘iPad mini’. We already know a 7.85 inch iPad is being tested by Apple in their labs, and here’s 5 essential reasons why Apple should release a smaller iPad to the public.

1. A lower price tag

The main reason people don’t purchase an iPad is that because it is a new product and essentially does what every other computer does, people arn’t willing to dig into their pockets for at least £400 to try one out. An iPad mini would be priced significantly cheaper, maybe around the £250 … Read the rest

Apple Acknowledge WiFi Issues With The New iPad And Are Replacing Faulty Products

There have been many things the the New iPad has got some stick for, mainly the iPad overheating issues which have gradually faded out now that everyone has realised its not an issue. However one problem that has been noted with the New iPad that seems to ring true is WiFi Internet issues.

A number of users report speed issues when compared to the iPad 2, when the new tablet is compared with its predecessor at equal distances from the router the new device actually performed slower, despite the superior processor chip.
Another problem some are reporting is intermittency in WiFi signal on WiFi only models. Even when at full … Read the rest

This design could be the key to Apple’s 4 inch iPhone

20120411-115519.jpg

One of the biggest features hoped for the next iPhone is a 4 inch display to take over from the 3.5 inch one we’ve had since day one. All current designs depicting this larger screen have been sticking with the iPhone’s current 3:2 ratio between height and width, but this is the first one to go against this and predict a 9:5 more ‘candy bar’ like sized screen.

At first I thought this was merely a blind hope due to current apps not being the right size, however the designer does provide some compelling reasoning behind why apple might choose this new design.

The larger design by ‘Modilwar’ over at … Read the rest

First of all the picture, from the wallpaper it has been extrapolated that the iPad in the image is in portrait mode, but yet there is no sign of a home button. Granted the picture could be take from further along the bottom of the iPad, but still it’s a little thing to add to the rumour.

The iPad 3 Is Going To Be Thicker Than The iPad 2, But Only Slightly (0.81mm to be precise)

20120229-153617.jpg

Supporting all of the other previous rumours that the iPad 3 is going to be slightly thicker than its predecessor, we have a picture showing that the third generation iPad is going to be less than a millimetre thicker.

The picture via Apple.pro shows one of the iPad 3 rear shells that a few people have managed to get a hold of being measured with a pair of digital vernier callipers. The same has also been done with a current iPad 2. As you can see there is a difference, but it is extremely minimal at .81 of a millimetre.

The headings are labled left to right: “Apple iPad Model”, “iPad 2 US Price”, “iPad 3 US Price”, “iPad 3 RMB equivalent price”. The final column is calculated on the exchange rate.

More microscope images show the amazing pixelage in the iPad 3 display

20120225-091114.jpg

We posted earlier in the week how Macrumors managed to get their hands on the proposed (but pretty much definate) screen that will come equipped on the imminent iPad 3. Unfortunately even at the hands of the experts at ifixit with their ‘Hands on’ video with the display, it was not possible to get any power to the screen to give it a test run.

What can be done however is take pictures from a microscope, and the results of which are as shown above. This picture taken by iFixit shows even better the huge improvement in pixel density on the third generation device. As the screen is powered … Read the rest

The Next Generation ‘iPhone 5′ Will Be Given A September Or October Release Date

Today’s most recent iPhone news come once again from the Japanese blog Macotakara. The report says that Apple are rearranging their release schedules for good, and that the sixth generation iPhone (known as the iPhone 5) will be release in the Autumn/Fall time of this year.

The report predictably cites a ‘reliable inside source’ and says to expect a release date for the iPhone 5 in September/October time. Apple broke its typical 12 month release schedule for the iPhone for the first time with the release of the iPhone 4S by releasing it in October and not in the summer. Spy Shot Suggests iPad 3 will feature an A5X chip, not the predicted A6

A couple of weeks ago we reported the inside news that Apple were choosing to go for a double LED light bar in their next iPad. This was to allow for sufficient backlighting to the expected high resolution ‘retina’ display that the third generation iPad will come with.

Leading on from this, it is being said that to account for the internals of this backlighting, the iPad 3 will not be thinner than it’s predecessor, but actually slightly thicker than the iPad 2. The iPad 2 is extremely thin however, and some even say that the original iPad was actually slightly better to hold and felt better in the hand. … Read the rest

A retina display is now easily the most expected feature of the iPad 3, and rumours are strengthened further of this taking place with reports that Sharp has now been added to the list of manufacturers to produce this super high res display on the next iPad.

One of the main reasons a retina display was originally being questioned was the fact that they were so complex, it was taking original manufacturer Samsung a much longer time to produce. Why Apple are so adamant to stay with a 3.5 inch screen on the iPhone

While Android phone manufacturers are constantly bringing out new phones with increasing screen size, many wonder while Apple have not don’t the same. In fact in all of the 5 generations of iPhone we have now had, Apple have not deviated at all from the original 3.5 inch screen size.

The reasoning behind this is purely practical and about being able to access all area of the screen with ease and minimal effort. iPhone 5 parts appear online & white iPhone 5 likely

The one for the 5 is on the same ribbon cable as the mic, indicating its position will be changed on the iphone 5 and be situated lower down in the phone. This would make sense as the iPhone 4 has been known to have faults with their proximity sensors.
