The New iPhone 5 May Only Have An 8 Pin Dock And Render Our Current Accessories Obslete [RUMOUR]

We have posted a number of articles, leaks and rumours over the past few weeks that indicate that the new iPhone 5 will bring us an all new smaller dock connector, currently rumoured to only contain 19 pins. This is opposed to the current famous iOS dock connector that contains 30 connector pins.

Well we have had a rumour today that tells us that this new dock connector Apple is introducing will be even more simplified and only contain 8 pins. So why is it important? Well in the current iPhone connector (shown below), there are 11 pins that are not needed or used anymore and this is why a 19 pin connector was likely as an update from Apple.

By Apple reducing this further to only 8 pins it means that there are a huge range of accessories that rely on the rest of the abandoned connections to work, meaning that all these old accessories will no longer work with the new iPhone, even with an adaptor.

The new smaller connector can be seen above and is supported by the range of supposed leaked iPhone 5 images we have managed to get our hands on.

It’s pretty certain that the next device will see the premiere of an all new smaller connection and charging port. The best guess at the moment is a September release date for the iPhone 5 and it looks as though we will have to wait until then to find out if a wide range of our iOS accessories will be rendered obsolete with new devices.
