New 2012 iMac Expected To Be A Refresh Only With No Retina Display

Since the release of the new Retina MacBook Pro range we’re now looking to the iMac 2012 which we have been anticipating for so long now. Well if you were hoping for a major update as we were, you may be disappointed as the latest news indicates this will not be the case.

Reports such as that from Analyst’s at KIG Securities and Digitimes are indicating that we will indeed see a new iMac this September but it will not be a complete overhaul, more just a refresh of the current model with a completely new design coming in 2013.

The refresh will likely take the same shape and chassis as the current model but feature upgrades such as increased speed and memory, with the increased speed likely to come from new ivy bridge processors. Also if the new MacBook is anything to go by expect an increased amount if thunderbolt and USB 3.0 ports, although getting rid of the optical drive all together may not come just yet for the Apple all in one.

So if these latest reports are anything to go by it looks as though our dreams of a new Retina iMac model will have to be put on hold for a bit longer. However the update should still bring a few interesting changes and we will be sure to keep you up to date with any more news regarding his and the possibility of a retina upgrade.
