The latest iOS 6 Beta 4 was released earlier today and brought with it a number of bug and glitch fixes, but also the major change of eliminating its YouTube app that has come as a standard iPhone app since its release in 2007.
It’s no secret that with the growth of android that Apple are slowly trying to cut their ties with Google and providing alternatives, such as replacing google maps in iOS 6 with Apples own new 3D maps app.
Not only this but getting rid of the YouTube app may also of been influenced by the fact it’s simply not needed anymore.
The development of mobile website interfaces has come on very far since the launch of the iPhone, and I think we are now at the point where the mobile YouTube site when simply entered into safari is actually better than the dedicated app – in the app you can’t even view a users page or playlists.
No statement has been released about the loss of the app but it looks as though when iOS 6 does come out we won’t be seeing it again. Currently the iOS 6 update is expected to be released in September alongside the next iPhone and an iPad mini. In the mean time we will keep you updated with what’s going to come from the new operating system.
