The ‘iPhone 5′ rumours have chilled out a bit recently amidst the launch of the new iPad, but we now have the most credible one we’ve seen for a while. The report comes from Rene Richie of iMore who gives us a number of statistics on the upcoming sixth gen iPhone and states a few things that it will feature.

According to the report their sources have confirmed the following for the next iPhone:

• Similar if not same sized screen (currently 3.5-inch but not set in stone)

• 4G LTE radio

• New “micro dock” connector

• Fall/October 2012 release

First of all the 4G/LTE rumour for the next iPhone I think we can pretty much confirm. It was a slight disappointment that the iPhone 4S didn’t have LTE, but after the new iPad being released i think that 4G capabilities are pretty much a sure thing for the new iPhone. Furthermore by the time of its release hopefully other nations such as us over here in the UK will be closer to actually having 4G available.
The ‘micro dock’ connector is something we have heard about before for the iPad 3. As reported then as well I think it’s merely a matter of time until a new smaller dock connector is introduced by Apple as they are needing to make their devices even smaller and thinner. So it’s definitely possible that this new iPhone could be the first device to premiere this new connector and spell the end for their standard 30 pin connector.

They are also stating that it will feature the same or a similar sized screen for the next iPhone. This is interesting given all of the 4 inch screen rumours we’ve heard, but as we’ve said before Apple have their reasons why they’re so adamant to keep the 3.5 inch screen size for the iPhone.

The prediction on release date looks to be the most accurate right now. Although we can hope for a new iPhone release at summer WWDC, it’s looking more and more likely that after the release of the 4S, Apple has now moved their yearly schedule to this Fall/October time.
